Bob Dylan: Aufnahmesession mit Johnny Cash erscheint als „Bootleg Series“

Die fünfzehnte Ausgabe von Bob Dylans Bootleg Series beleuchtet Dylans musikalische Ausflüge nach Nashville in den Jahren 1967 bis 1969. Das Herzstück darauf ist die Session mit Johnny Cash.

Travelin’ Thru, 1967 – 1969: The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 dürfte vor allem Fans aus Bob Dylans Country-Phase ganz besonders gefallen. Denn ein großer Teil des 3CD-Sets, das auch als Vinyl erscheint, ist Dylans Aufnahmesession mit der 2003 verstorbenen Country-Ikone Johnny Cash gewidmet.

Bislang unveröffentlichter Dylan-Song

Die erste der drei CDs beschäftigen sich den Aufnahmensessions der Alben John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline und Self-Portrait. Neben Alternate Takes besagter Alben (unter anderem von All Along The Watchtower, I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine und Lay, Lady, Lay) ist mit dem Stück Western Road auch ein bis dato unveröffentlichter Song aus dieser Phase enthalten. Zwei Songs der Bootleg Series gibt es bereits zu hören.

Session mit Johnny Cash

Discs zwei und drei der Compilation befassen sich mit Dylans musikalischen Treffen mit Johnny Cash. Erstmals gibt es die Aufnahmesession der beiden vom 18. Februar 1969 im geschichtsträchtigen Studio A in Nashville zu hören, bei der unter anderem das Duet Girl From The North Country entstand, die später auch auf dem Album Nashville Skyline enthalten war. Außerdem standen zahlreiche Coversongs sowie das Stück Wanted Man auf dem Programm, mit dem Cash kurze Zeit später sein Konzert im St. Quentin-Gefängnis begonnen hatte.

Ebenfalls enthalten sind die Aufnahmen von Dylans Gastauftritt in der Johnny Cash Show vom 1. Mai 1969, sowie seine Aufnahmen mit dem legendären Bluegrass-Banjospieler Earl Scruggs für das TV-Special Earl Scruggs: His Family and his Friends.
